While sitting in the back of the classroom I actually saw less 'bad' behavior than expected. There were a couple of whispers and side conversations but the teacher minimized these by constantly moving around the room. She walks behind and up and down the 4 isles and discourages this type of behavior. She also stops the lesson and is sure to make a small spectacle out of the students who are being disruptive so they apologize and stop the distracting behavior. I think student engagement is one of the most important things in teaching. If the students are not engaged or invested in what is being taught or spoken about in the classroom then no meaningful learning is going to be taking place. The students are just going to record and regurgitate later and not hold on to that information for their life. To encourage student engagement I plan on making a real life connection with a hands on activity a daily occurrence in my classroom. I want my students to look forward to my class because they know that they are going to take something out of the class every single time they are there and engaged.
